Life Skills

Life Skills at EWIS equips students with the necessary skills to lead happy and productive lives at school and beyond. The curriculum is based on a combination of the school's goals and KIPP's seven highly predictive character strengths (based on the work of Martin Selegman and Chris Peterson) namely: curiosity, self-control, zest, grit, social intelligence, optimism and gratitude. Examples of topics covered include: working collaboratively, goal-setting, growth mindset, problem-solving, communication skills and fairness. Career guidance is currently offered on a one-on-one basis, and is being written into the Life Skills curriculum as an essential component of the Secondary Programme.

Life Skills lessons are timtetabled for Grade 5 - 12 classes and are taught by a Life Skills teacher. From Early Years to Grade 4 Life Skills is taught by the class teacher and the focus is on integrating school goals into the daily life of our students.

Life Skills (and our school goals) are an important part of the ethos we aim to develop at EWIS. Once a month assemblies are held and students are awarded for demonstrating exceptional achievment of these character goals.
