BILINGUAL EDUCATION
ENGLISH and KHMER
AIMS:
to educate so that all students are fluent in written and
spoken English and Khmer
2. to achieve competence in both languages so that all students
can sit final exams in year 12 and do well in both languages.
Our bilingual program is based on brain research which tells us how we learn. We learn trough making connections between what we know and what is new; we learn though relevancy; and we learn through reinforcement of ideas.
For these reasons English an Khmer are taught together throughout the day except during the study of English language and Khmer language. For most grades these classes operate with low teacher ratios-1 teacher to 11 or 12 students.
The program is proving to be very effective and children can switch from one language to another with ease. Not only that, the level of understanding and achievement in both languages is very, very good.
