WESTERN ASSOCIATION OF SCHOOLS AND COLLEGES (WASC)
East-West International School gained 6 year accreditation status with the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in July, 2013.
The WASC accreditation process fosters excellence in elementary and secondary education by encouraging school improvement. WASC accreditation recognizes schools that meet an acceptable level of quality, in accordance with established, research-based WASC criteria.
Following assessment visits by the WASC inspectors in April, 2013, the school was delighted to hear that they had been successful in gaining the maximum term of accreditation.
This accreditation is internationally accepted and is an endorsement of East-West's learning environment, curriculum, support of students, teacher strategies and the programs offered.
In this school year (2013 / 2014) the opportunities for student to train in teams for sport has increased. In the secondary school we have teams in swimming, basketball, soccer and volleyball. These teams play competitively against other schools. We have boys and girls teams. In the elementary school we have a boys' soccer team.
In February representative athletes from Grades 3 - 5 competed in an Athletic Carnival which included representatives from 6 other schools. Our students run in 100, 200, 400 and 800 meter events as well as competed in long jump, javelin, discus. The day was a great success and very much enjoyed by all the students.
Students have the opportunity to learn to play the violin, Chinese flute or to attend singing and percussion classes. The students will be involved in end of year concerts and other musical events throughout this year.
